The Bible says we are all made in the image of divine Spirit, God, and in Christian Science our true identity as God’s spiritual likeness is understood to be a fixed fact. But we each need to awaken to this reality by growing in the understanding that our identity is spiritual, not material. On this basis, spiritual pioneer Mary Baker Eddy wrote in her seminal work Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “Emerge gently from matter into Spirit” (p. 485).
